Proposed merge of Jon Schwartz (drummer) into "Weird Al" Yankovic
[edit]- The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section. A summary of the conclusions reached follows.
- To not merge; independent notability has not been established, but readers are best server by having the topic discussed separately (perhhaps WP:TOOLONG). Klbrain (talk) 12:44, 23 November 2024 (UTC)
Tagged for sources since 2012 with zero improvement. Almost no notability outside work with Weird Al. Either merge or AFD. Ten Pound Hammer • (What did I screw up now?) 17:17, 13 August 2024 (UTC)
- @Masem: @KD5TVI: @SibTower1987: your thoughts on the above mergers? Ten Pound Hammer • (What did I screw up now?) 20:11, 20 August 2024 (UTC)
- Jay *might* be notable standalone give work outside of working with Weird Al but without sources, should be merged into here, the other two are clear merges. Perhaps a brief "Band" seciton may be worthwhile to consider here. — Masem (t) 00:08, 21 August 2024 (UTC)
- Most of Jay's solo works don't seem to be notable on their own. Ten Pound Hammer • (What did I screw up now?) 18:40, 21 August 2024 (UTC)
- Hence "might", such that the short should be to merge here but if someone can show those notable or more notability for Jay, it can be respun out. Masem (t) 21:42, 21 August 2024 (UTC)
- The amount of merges proposed in the article "Weird Al" Yankovic could potentially overwrite the article, so if I was you, I would not propose the merger of these articles. 92.236.30.187 (talk) 19:57, 26 September 2024 (UTC)
- I’d agree. There’s too many merge threads for “Wierd Al” Yankovic per now. Please check his site and all the other threads regarding merging as well. 2A02:2121:304:EB3F:B411:423C:EB61:731E (talk) 23:10, 28 September 2024 (UTC)

- Don’t Merge - There’s a lot of room for improvement on those individual articles but much of the information unique to those pages would never make sense to include on the Weird Al page. I don’t mind that they’re heavily linked to Weird Al; being longtime collaborators and members of his band grants a degree of notability that warrants far more care to those articles, in my opinion - particularly in obtaining additional sources. DubiousVillain (talk) 18:39, 6 November 2024 (UTC)
- Don't merge - I don't get why this would matter. There are many cases of things that wouldn't "have notability" without another thing. So if a person has notability, even if it's because of another person, there shouldn't be a problem with having an article about them. CheeseyHead (talk) 06:02, 10 November 2024 (UTC)
- Don’t Merge - This page is about Weird Al, not his band. 𝔅𝔦𝔰-𝔖𝔢𝔯𝔧𝔢𝔱𝔞? 09:22, 10 November 2024 (UTC)

- Do you have a reason? Ten Pound Hammer • (What did I screw up now?) 18:27, 23 October 2024 (UTC)
Keep - Don't Merge Looking at all the gold discs in the image, he is probably notable enough.James Kevin McMahon (talk) 02:07, 5 November 2024 (UTC)
- That's not how notability works on WP. You have to demonstrate he's separately notable from Weird Al. Masem (t) 02:35, 5 November 2024 (UTC)
Keep - Don't Merge Even though he is not notable without Al, most of the stuff on here would not make sense being on Al's page. It's like how Bryce James is not notable at all without Lebron but still has his own page.Sushidude21! (talk)
The Weird Al Show
[edit]The Weird Al Show only has three passing mentions (lead, Harvey the Wonder Hamster, TV filmography). It should probably have a couple of sentences with a "main" hatnote in the '90-'97 section and/or the "Other works" section. Mapsax (talk) 00:27, 2 November 2024 (UTC)
Changing Lead Image (or not)
[edit]My edit which changed the lead image from this one to this was reverted by editor Masem. I would like to dispute the revert and present the reasons why I think my edit was justified.
- It's a more recent image - The photo I propose depicts Weird Al in 2024, whilst the current image depicts him in 2010.
- It's used on other-language Wikipedia articles - The photo I propose is used on the Italian, Russian, Bulgarian, Czech, Albanian and another 11 or so other-language Wikipedia articles, meaning it is considered as a suitable photo as the lead image.
- It's a higher resolution image - Not much of an argument (if one at all), but the current image is "only" 400px by 600px, whilst the photo I propose is much higher resolution (~2000px by ~2700px).
I hope we can come to a consesus as quickly as possible. God bless. 𝔅𝔦𝔰-𝔖𝔢𝔯𝔧𝔢𝔱𝔞? 21:53, 7 November 2024 (UTC)
- That makes sense to me. Grant it, I don't know much about how they pick the photos (they're usually not great lol). CheeseyHead (talk) 06:21, 10 November 2024 (UTC)
- Support Bis's newer photo is bigger, newer, and clearer. I see no reason to use otherwise.
- Ten Pound Hammer • (What did I screw up now?) 22:58, 15 November 2024 (UTC)
- Strong support To be honest I don't see the issue with the proposed photo. It's higher quality, much more recent (14 years!), and also shows his face pretty clearly. The status quo might be "better" in terms of looks but I think the proposed photo's benefits outweigh the status quo's. -- Dantus21 (talk) 00:44, 19 November 2024 (UTC)
- There seems to be zero opposition, so per WP:BOLD I put in the 2024 pic. Ten Pound Hammer • (What did I screw up now?) 21:26, 19 November 2024 (UTC)
Al Yankovic, what a....
[edit]I've heard Livin in the Condos (reggae -registered w/ BMI 1982) and Al's Buy Me A Condo (reggae -registered w/ BMI 1983). The latter is quite literally a retooling?, a 'hey guy, good idea', of the former; for which the original singer/songwriter got no credit, was EVER contacted and rec'd not a cent from Al or etc. Includes alot of same lyrics too.. "wall to wall carpeting", "no lawns to mow". You might find it on myspace...! See also: "'Weird Al' Yankovic in 3-D".
how did it happen?... thur and w/ assist of Dr Demento. Orginal song was sent to Dr in 1983... Heres a quote fron this website..'In 2010, Eric Appel produced a Funny or Die trailer for Weird: The Al Yankovic Story, ... making it big using song parodies with the help of Dr. Demento...' LOTS of other sources too 68.6.247.71 (talk) 23:33, 6 December 2024 (UTC)
