Mentor?
[edit]Is it really fair to say Traficant was Tim Ryan's "mentor?" Ryan was an envelope-stuffing intern in Traficant's office for one year.—Preceding unsigned comment added by Mwalcoff (talk • contribs) 04:01, 23 January 2005 (UTC)
Bill being discussed
[edit]Before Tim launches into his tirade, he says he's "against the bill." Anyone know what bill he's talking about?—Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.111.77.250 (talk) 18:14, 3 September 2006 (UTC)
I know it was about something about the draft. It's clear in the speach that he was responding to something Bush or someone else said which denied any possibility of a draft, but as for what was the bill he was against? I have no idea Quixoto—Preceding undated comment added 11:34, 20 December 2006 (UTC)
"Charismatic"
[edit]Isn't using the word "charismatic" to discribe his draft speech a NPOV violation? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.83.229.131 (talk) 01:32, 6 February 2007 (UTC)
- I don't think so. The speech is very firey. I think charismatic is an appropriate word. If you have suggestions for a better adjective, let me know. --Daysleeper47 01:56, 6 February 2007 (UTC)
Vandalism?
[edit]Someone keeps removing reference to Tim Ryan bailing out corporations to the tune of $700 Billion. This vandalism must stop. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.189.217.134 (talk) 00:22, 2 October 2008 (UTC)
Perhaps if you a more encyclopaedic way of stating the information you would like to contribute and cited some sources, I would not revert your edits. ɷ i m b u s a n i a 00:25, 2 October 2008 (UTC)

Music career?
[edit]In case this somehow manages to get posted again, please be aware: Mr. Ryan has NOT issued a music CD. It is a collection of speeches and putting it here probably qualifies as "promotion". WQUlrich (talk) 03:50, 15 October 2019 (UTC)
Infobox photo discussion
[edit]I know that often congressional portraits are the best photos available for these pages, but surely I am not the only one who thinks that using a photo that is 12 years old, showing Ryan at age 36 when he is currently 49 years old is not the best option? Connormah (talk) 19:21, 25 July 2022 (UTC)
Did Tim Ryan ever pass a bar exam?
[edit]I have heard, but I can't find any verifying documenation supporting or refuting that Tim Ryan indeed never passed any bar exam and therefore has never been qualified to practice law anywhere in the country. 72.23.105.58 (talk) 13:55, 21 August 2022 (UTC)
- He may not have sat for the bar, as he went straight from law school into politics. – Muboshgu (talk) 15:29, 21 August 2022 (UTC)
- I don't know, but I don't think it matters since we don't seem to currently be claiming in the article that he's a lawyer or that he passed the bar. Marquardtika (talk) 18:35, 21 August 2022 (UTC)
COI tag (October 2022)
[edit]See JD Vance article Wakelamp d[@-@]b (talk) 02:39, 7 October 2022 (UTC)
- Why did you try to tagbomb this article? – Muboshgu (talk) 02:54, 7 October 2022 (UTC)
- see below, It was my first time answering one of these, so I checked the article, that of the opponent [Tim_Ryan_(Ohio_politician)] in detail. I don't normally do politicians, so maybe my standard is too high ?? Wakelamp d[@-@]b (talk) 13:44, 7 October 2022 (UTC)
Explanation for tags
[edit]@monoshgu Came here via rfc on Talk:J. D. Vance
- This article's factual accuracy is disputed. (October 2022)
- The CNN Amer Adi link has "House Democrat has been fighting for Adi to remain in America and it was his efforts that secured consecutive stays of the deportation order. But the Ryan article states "Ryan repeatedly presented a bill to Congress whereby Othman would be granted a more thorough review of his case to stay in the United States" . I couldn't find any presentations of bills.
- There is lots of back and forth on "a large swath" vs area. It doesn’t look that big, and wiktionary definition of swath has it marked as English - is it used much in the US?
- The neutrality of this article is disputed. (October 2022)
- These are cited, but their contents are no longer mentioned COMPLIANCE CASES MADE PUBLIC Congressman Tim Ryan endorses Clinton
- Need to make it clear that Jim Traficant was former Democratic Ohio, as not mentioned elsewhere
- Ryan article states that Amer Adi (Othman disputed a verdict by immigration officials on a matter that affected his legal status. Some of the cited article needs inclusion "In the 1980s, Adi held a green card. But he lost his permanent resident status in the early 1990s, after moving to Brazil for three years with his wife. When he returned, Adi tried to apply for a new card, but was rejected. Immigration officials accused him of having a sham marriage with his American ex-wife. His ex-wife had signed a statement alleging marriage fraud. According to Adi, his lawyer and multiple media interviews with Adi’s ex-wife, she was coerced into making the statement after immigration officials showed up at her door."
- Is the the amount of photo and caption changes an issue? Or is that normal in the US?
- Abortion needs more information, as it is such a big issue on opponent. Suggest this mentions more women enrolling and background, and this This discusses his changed views.
- This biography of a living person needs additional citations for verification. (October 2022)
- Whole article needs refs, especially para starting with from Niles. This looks like a good source.
- Secondary sources are needed for his government webpage
- Pittsburg link is only in google cacbe, but it seems definitely problematic (But maybe that’s just a US reporting style??) ;"But Ryan, a husky man of 6 feet 3 inches, seemed to take over crowds with the sheer force of his personality", “One Democratic rival accused him of violating campaign finance laws, but the complaint seemed unnecessary.” … "Ryan smiles at such taunts." "The Traficant is era over. Ryan says politics as usual in Crime Town USA are finished, too."
- This article needs additional citations for verification. (October 2022)
- " “In the 2002 Democratic primary, Ryan defeated Sawyer, who was seen as insufficiently labor-friendly in the newly drawn district. “
- "Ryan ...and has supported steps to reduce income inequality" Maybe this link that has already been used. BUT it has this " Ryan’s radical liberal economic worldview is clear in the statement his campaign released this summer entitled, “Spend Now, Save Later.”
- Ryan article mentions his voting with Biden, needs to mention distancing and second term [https://www.nytimes.com/2022/09/09/us/politics/ohio-biden-democrats-manufacturing-revival.html
- This article on a notable topic needs additional citations for verification. An editor has performed a search and found that sufficient sources exist; these may be found on the talk page. (October 2022)
- Some of this article's listed sources may not be reliable. (October 2022)
- “telemarketing scum" !!!
- Is the amount of fund-raising by Vance and Ryan large??
- Is any of his sponsored legislation relevant?
- The committees in the article (defence https://www.govtrack.us/congress/members/tim_ryan/400352 also mentions Joint Committee on the Library
- "Ryan ran against Morgan Harper and Traci Johnson" this got removed. We should try not to reduce links to women.
- (This quote from the https://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:AwPLdqlfDHoJ:https://archive.humanevents.com/2010/10/01/democrat-tim-ryan-raise-taxes-on-small-businesses/&cd=3&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=au seems better “We need to ask the wealthiest people in our country to chip in, help us pay down the deficit,” said Ryan. “They all of a sudden say ‘No, no, no! Where are we gonna get the money?’ I mean where are you gonna get it from? Are you gonna get it from poor people?” than the current one.
- Too technical
- The redistributing para.
- Other
- The tone is very different from his opponent[JD Vance] which raises [WP:NPOV] concerns
- IS Amer Adi section too long?
- This article confirms the decision to revert the kill republicans edit.

Military decorations and awards that JD Vance would have
[edit]Instead of being so non-specific about his military service, why not include information about his military decorations and awards instead of "a lot of medals"?
From most junior to most senior:
Sea Service Deployment Ribbon War on Terrorism Service Medal War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal Iraq Campaign Medal National Defense Service Medal Good Conduct Medal Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal
He would also have a rifle qualification badge and possibly a pistol qualification badge, since his TO weapon would most likely would have been a pistol being, in a non-combat role (even though they are called "Combat Correspondents", they are not considered combatants in the Marine Corps). 2001:44C8:4180:176E:C2C:B08D:F879:9D89 (talk) 06:27, 30 July 2024 (UTC)
- Sorry, switched from JD Vance to Tim Ryan and thought I was commenting on the JD Vance page. 2001:44C8:4180:176E:C2C:B08D:F879:9D89 (talk) 06:34, 30 July 2024 (UTC)
