Japanese garden

[edit]

Thank you for contributing to the article on Japanese gardens. If you have a photo of the garden you listed, it would be a valuable addition to the article, too. Presently the article focuses on Japanese gardens within Japan, but photos from outside the country would provide other perspectives and make the article more encyclopedic. Again, thank you. Gardens and arboretums

[edit]

Nice starts on several pages there thanks! - a couple of tips, scientific names of plants are in italics (add two ' marks at the start and end of each scientific name: typing ''Pinus rigida'' gives Pinus rigida on the page), and please remember, 95% of the world's population uses metric measures: most people don't have the faintest clue what an "acre" is - MPF 11:09, 11 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Hello,

To avoid inadvertantly infringing on the copyright of another author, it's almost always best to write articles from scratch. It's almost never appropriate to copy and paste substantial amounts of material from an external source—even if you cite that source in the article's References section. The one exception is where you have permission from the original author to include the work in Wikipedia, licensed under the GFDL. Making minor changes in phrasing doesn't make a text sufficiently unique to relieve concerns about copyright.

For biographical articles, it's usually a good idea to start with more than one source. It reduces the likelihood that the text you write will inadvertently duplicate the work of another author, and it can provide balance and fill in gaps or omissions. Each editor on Wikipedia has his own style; I tend to start by sketching an article outline. Start with some section headings for the article (you can change them later) and some point form details about the subject. Gradually flesh it out, and build up the biography in your own words. Don't worry if your prose isn't perfectly polished—other Wikipedians will tend to smooth out your text.

Incidentally, you might find it easier to communicate with other Wikipedia editors if you acquire a Wikipedia user name. Just click on the Create account/Log in button up in the top right. You will then be able to sign your remarks using four tildes "~~~~" and you'll have your own user talk page rather than just an IP address. Hope that helps. Don't get discouraged! --TenOfAllTrades (talk/contrib) 22:33, 9 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Future events

[edit]

Hello. First let me say "WOW!" You've almost single-handedly compiled the List of botanical gardens in the United States and worked on many of the related articles. Thank you. That is real dedication. What brought me here, however, is a new article you created on the Vermont Community Botanical Garden. Future events aren't generally allowed as article topics, unless the preparation is under way and the preparation itself merits encyclopedic inclusion. See WP:WWIN#Wikipedia_is_not_a_crystal_ball. This is actually a good example of why. At this website it states the garden is planned to open in a few years. Context shows this was written five years ago (year 2000). This website says "First phase to open in 2004." That was last year and it is still in the planning phase. Predicted events don't always happen, and this garden doesn't look like it has enough support to make it. I just wanted you to know why I was nominating the article for deletion, so there is no confusion -- and hopefully no hard feelings. Again, thank you for all the wonderful work you've done so far. SWAdair | Talk 10:05, 14 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Great article! It is very interesting - so much so that I've nominated it for Did You Know. I'd really encourage you to join Wikipedia as you would be a fine editor in our community. Thanks for your work. Harro5 July 5, 2005 00:47 (UTC)

Updated DYK query Did you know? has been updated. A fact from the article The Wayside, which you recently created, has been featured in that section on the Main Page. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently-created article, then please suggest it on the "Did you know?" talk page.

Id please

It seems as though this is a static IP address used by one person. Fine. But please get yourself an account - there are many benefits to you - like a watch list. -- RHaworth 07:39, 2005 July 15 (UTC)

You can read about the benefits of a user name at Wikipedia:Why create an account?. The watchlist is a serious benefit to having an account. --Laura Scudder | Talk 22:12, 12 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Skelton Hall

[edit]

Please disambiguate where Skelton Hall is - I have now listed five Skeltons in traditional Yorkshire.

I have done it for you, having now actually bothered to read the Skelton, York article. (Mind you, I can find neither Skelton Mill, Sterne's Seat nor Mount Shandy on the map. And you need to explain the relevance of Mount Shandy.) -- RHaworth 09:43, 2005 July 15 (UTC)

Doane College Osterhout Arboretum

[edit]

I have added a "{{prod}}" template to the article Doane College Osterhout Arboretum, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Taltree Arboretum and Gardens, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Business for more information.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion," which appears inside of the speedy deletion ({{db-...}}) tag (if no such tag exists, the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate). Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. ukexpat (talk) 20:54, 1 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
